GAME NIGHT OVERVIEW

We offer a wide variety of games featuring numerous popular game mechanics. For your planning convenience, we have labeled these games according to the length of time needed to learn and enjoy the game from set-up to clean-up.

Of course, each game length varies depending upon the social dynamics of the group and the number of players and level of game experience, but in general our games and game nights are divided into the 2-3 hour experience (with approximately 1 1⁄2 to 2 1⁄2 hours of gameplay) and our 3-4 hour experience (with approximately 2 1⁄2 to 3 1⁄2 hours of gameplay).

General Questions

Hi there! Have some questions? Find the answers below.

  • What if our game ends early?

We'll bring an additional quick bonus game to fill the space if your game ends before the minimum time scheduled.  It is actually more likely that you won't finish a game in the allotted time.

  • Ok, so what if we can't finish the game in the allotted time?

You have several options in the event of this happening.

    • Option A: We are happy to stay up to 30 minutes at no additional charge to you if it looks like the game is close to finishing, or if applying a house rule for ending the game within that time works.
    • Option B: If your time is set in stone, we'll set a house rule for shortening the game at its outset.  You'll get instruction and the play experience without having to worry about making other obligations because the night went too long.
    • Option C: If your group is into learning to play and wants to take it from there on their own and if you aren't hung up on actually getting to the end, we'll play up until the maximum time you hired us for, cut the game there and pack up.
  • What happens if we don't like the game?

Unfortunately, that can happen.  We can't guarantee that a new game will strike your fancy, but if you are on the pickier side of playing, contact us in advance and we'll talk you through picking the perfect game for your group.

  • How young can the players be?

We've listed recommended ages for each game according to game complexity and subject matter, but numerous factors come into play here that aren't necessarily tied into age.  For example, it's not fun for anyone when the game environment spins into chaos or when a player needs to be redirected.  All players should have the ability to follow directions, play fair, and handle winning and losing with some element of grace.

  • What if I have a larger group and want to split into games running simultaneously?

We do have some flexibility to make this happen for you.  Please contact us and we'll do our very best to accommodate you.

  • What exactly is the role of the Across the Board Game Night Guru?

Our gurus are there to teach and help make your experience stress-free and fabulously fun.  They are not there to play the game or to take the place of your host.
